As a co-determination member, whether you are just starting out or have been around for years: one thing remains the same: the rules of the game. The rules of the game that both employee and management must abide by: Where does employee power come from? What is allowed and not allowed? And what does the playing field look like?
The term ‘rules of the game’ is very appropriate. Co-determination work can sometimes be very much like a game: what arguments do you put forward? When do you choose to put pressure on your director, and when not? During your time as a co-determination member you will get better at this game and learn to represent your constituency better and better. In block two of our knowledge base, we will delve further into how the game is played. But first we will set up the board and read the rules of the game. First, we give a comprehensive list of all the rights for each co-determination body, then we go into more detail on the five most important co-determination rights.
